How does excessive sweating pass? Ways to reduce sweating

Excessive sweating, known as 'hyperhidrosis' in medicine, is defined as the sweat glands working more than normal without any trigger. Excessive sweating can be due to an underlying cause (secondary) or without any reason (primary). Primary hyperhidrosis is more common in the population. Among the underlying diseases, diabetes, endocrine diseases such as thyroid, Parkinson's, neurological causes such as spinal trauma, brain tumors, malignancies such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma leukemia, infections such as tuberculosis, and some drugs such as antidepressants may cause excessive sweating. Cause excessive sweating (primary hyperhidrosis) can affect the armpits, palms, soles, face, scalp and groin area. Armpit involvement is the most common.

DECREASES WITH AGE

The incidence is equal in men and women. It starts around the age of 25 on average, but later and earlier age groups have also been reported. Especially in patients with early onset, it is common for excessive sweating to decrease spontaneously with age.

Here are the treatment methods

- Spread treatments: Among these treatments, creams containing aluminum chloride and glycopyrrolate are among the first choice agents. Oral anticholinergic drugs can be used when the treatments are insufficient. However, these drugs are often not preferred because they may have severe side effects such as palpitations and rhythm disturbances.

- Iontophoresis: It is a method that can be used frequently in hand and foot sweating. In this application, an anodal current of 15-25 milliamperes is applied to the sweating area. When the desired effect is achieved with 3 or 5 sessions per week, maintenance treatment is started with one session per week.
- Botox: Today, the most common application for sweating in clinical practice is the botox application, which is used extremely frequently in modern dermatology. This application for sweating can be applied in areas such as armpits, palms, soles, groin, and scalp. The area is first anesthetized with anesthetic creams. Afterwards, botox injection is made in the application area at regular intervals. Although its effect varies according to the person, it is between 4-6 months. This application is from the summer months when sweating is high. can be done first.

- Microneedle radiofrequency: In this application, again, like botox, the sweating area is numbed with anesthetic creams. Radiofrequency is given under the skin with needles with a diameter of 2-3 mm. With this radiofrequency energy, the number of sweat glands in the sweating area is reduced. The application is usually applied for 4-6 sessions at intervals of once a month.

Ways to reduce sweating
Although there is no specific recommendation to reduce sweating attacks, patients with hyperhidrosis may be advised to avoid spicy foods that can increase sweating. Some herbal agents used in the treatment of the disease can cause irritation and allergies. For this reason, such contents should not be used without consulting the physician. Especially if there is an underlying psychiatric condition such as anxiety, support can be obtained in this regard. Apart from this, avoiding stress can also reduce the frequency of sweating.
