Four common mistakes that make your home warmer instead of cooler

It's been hot for a while and forecasts tell us that this won't change anytime soon. If you want to not be affected by the heat, you should somehow turn your home into a cool environment. But what exactly should you do about it?

Recently, we have been witnessing high air temperatures in our country and around the world. In fact, high air temperature continues to take lives in some countries. So what should we do when the weather is hot in our house?

The first step to making your home cooler is to avoid making these four mistakes!

1. OPENING WINDOWS
The first thing many people think of when they want to cool their home is to open the windows. That way, at least some fresh air gets in, right? No. This is actually a big mistake because when you open the windows when the weather is hot, the warm air from outside enters your home. Result: Your home will be even warmer than before. This is not what you want! The best thing to do is to close the windows in the morning and open them again only after it has cooled down in the evening. This way you can ventilate your home during the night so it will be cooler again.

2. DEVICES
A common mistake in this heat is to leave all your devices on. Heat-generating devices (like lamps, televisions, and other electronic devices) can actually collectively heat up a room quite a bit. It's best to turn them off when not in use. Also, avoid using the stove or oven as much as possible: turning them on will cause the temperature in your home to rise quite quickly.

3. CURTAINS
It seems like the logical thing to do: you wake up in the morning and the first thing you do is open all the curtains. After all, it's a brand new day! Still, it's not the wisest thing to do when the weather is hot. It is useful to keep the curtains closed on hot days, especially in the afternoon. This way, you keep the heat out. The best time to reopen your curtains is when you ventilate your home in the evening when it's still cool.

4. PILLOWS
Another mistake some people make is to cover their sofas and chairs with pillows and blankets in the summer. That's actually not a smart thing to do, because all these fabric-made products actually retain some heat. Prepare your home for summer by removing all the pillows, blankets, quilts and other items you don't need. You can put them back when autumn comes!
