Male Infertility and Sperm Quality

Among the male infertility factors, low sperm count is among the leading causes. On average, 50% of couples have male infertility problems. In order to make a diagnosis of male infertility, some examinations and practices are required. While the age factor plays an important role in infertility in women, the number, quality and movements of sperm in men are among the important details regarding this issue.

Semen analysis comes to the fore among the applications that can clearly understand whether there is infertility in men. Semen analysis, which is a very easy method of application, is an analysis method that reveals the clearest findings about infertility. The test performed within the scope of semen analysis is examined under the semen sample given by the man after 3 to 5 days of sexual abstinence. The number, volume, shape, movement and characteristics of the sperm in the semen, which are examined under the microscope, are examined in detail.

If the test results are normal in the semen analysis, infertility is not mentioned; however, when a result different from normal is reached, the test has to be repeated at least 2 weeks apart. However, in such cases, which can be supported by different tests such as urine test, antibody test, antisperm antibody test, testicular biopsy, the clearest result is revealed.

Infertility symptoms in men occur less frequently than in women. Decreased or excessive interest in sexual intercourse in men, hair loss, abnormal growth of hair or pain in the testicles are among the clearest signs of infertility in men. In such cases, the nearest health institution should be consulted and the necessary conditions for semen analysis should be created.

Infertility in men can sometimes be congenital, but it can also occur later. Among the causes of infertility in men; genetic problems, abnormal conditions during the birth process, sperm production problems, varicocele, testicular trauma, past infections, changes in hormones and past surgeries.

In addition to all these reasons, conditions such as the person's health status, alcohol use, smoking, drug use are also known as activities that directly affect infertility. However, overheating in the testicles has a negative effect on sperm production. Factors such as high fever diseases, tight clothing style, and extremely hot showers are among the causes that negatively affect infertility.

Varicocele, which is the most common cause of male infertility, affects and inhibits sperm production in such cases. In this context, necessary interventions are made to the testicles with microscopic methods. With this method, improvement can be seen in 75 of 100 patients.

Blockages of sperm channels can also be resolved with necessary operations. With the removal of the blockages in the channels, the semen can be ejected easily and thus the problem in the pregnancy process is eliminated. In cases where the obstruction of the sperm channels cannot be opened, sperms are taken from the testicles and transferred into the uterus, so pregnancy can be achieved with in vitro fertilization treatment.

If there is no sperm in the semen of men, a pregnancy condition is created by taking sperm from the testicles together with an operation known as TESE, microinjection operation is performed, and fertilization is performed in an artificial environment and placed in the uterus of the woman.

You can get the necessary tests done, try more than one treatment method, and start your solution process in the presence of a specialist doctor.
