How to Clean the Car Headlight?

The headlights of our cars are of great importance to us as they enable us to see the surroundings in terms of the safety of our journey while driving at night. While driving at night, it enables us to notice any danger such as an obstacle or hole on the road in advance and the oncoming car to notice us.

These headlights, which are of great importance to us, were once crystal clear. Over time, automobile headlights can become covered with wax paper or turn yellow. This situation is very normal. However, it negatively affects the appearance of our vehicle from the outside and the illumination quality of our headlights. It is safer for you to learn to clean the headlights to extend the life of the car's headlights. Most headlights are made of polycarbonate plastic for long life, scratch resistance.

However, over time, unfortunately, it breaks the plastic outer layer due to UV rays from the sun. Fortunately, there are many cleaning products available on the market that can help restore your vehicle's night vision.

In this article, we will tell you how to clean your headlights of your vehicle and what cleaning methods are used to make your car's headlight bright like a new vehicle

Cleaning Dirty Car Headlight with Toothpaste

  • You can easily do our first method for cleaning your car headlights with the toothpaste available in almost every home, start by squeezing enough toothpaste on your fingertip for your cleaning process. Apply the toothpaste on the cloth.
  • Do not add water to your diaper yet. Scrub the car headlights with a cloth on which you have applied toothpaste and brush them with a brush. As you continue to brush, the dirt on the headlight surface will begin to come out. So continue the brushing process for a while.
  • After these processes, wet the cloth thoroughly with water. Then, squeeze the cloth well and drain the excess water. Your diaper is not saturated with water, but only moist.
  • Go back to the car headlight and continue to rub the outer paste surfaces of your headlight with the damp cloth you prepared.
  • You can now clean the toothpaste layer by wiping the entire headlight surface with the help of this cloth.
  • After these procedures, the headlight of your vehicle will have a new look just like the first day.

Cleaning and Polishing the Headlights with Sandpaper

  • You can use water sandpaper to clean the yellowed shadow. In order to prevent headlamp wear, we generally recommend that you choose 1500 or higher sandpaper.
  • When using sandpaper around the car, be careful not to put too much pressure on the headlight or scratch it. That's why it's a good idea to use masking tape where the headlights meet the paint. It is not necessary to apply this method, but it is worth taking an extra 1 or 2 minutes in order to protect the paintwork of the vehicle.
  • Take a sandpaper under the above conditions and start the sanding process by wetting the sandpaper. Wet the headlights well with sandpaper using a water spray bottle or a small bucket.
  • Start sanding without applying too much force to your car's headlight. After sanding, the dirt accumulated on the headlight surface will gradually begin to come off and a matte surface will form.
  • Continue sanding until the resulting matte surface completely disappears and a clear image appears.
  • Once the deep scratches on your headlight have disappeared, you can switch to a finer sandpaper.
  • After removing the dirt on your headlight with the help of sandpaper, you can now proceed to method 3. In this step, you can clean the headlights with the help of cake.

Cleaning the Headlights Using Paste

  •  If the headlight surface is not very dirty, you can choose car paste to quickly clean your headlight.
  •  During the pasting process, it can be done with the help of a polishing machine, provided that it is at low speed. Otherwise, the entire headlight of the vehicle should be carefully brushed by rubbing it on an old toothbrush.
  •  Wait for a while after brushing the headlight surface of the car with the help of paste. Then clean the entire headlight well with a damp cloth.
  •  If the dirt on your headlight is too stubborn to come out, you can try other methods.

 Tips

  • If there are deep scratches on the yellowed headlight, you can start with a coarser aid such as 1000 or 1500 sandpaper. As long as the scratches disappear, you can start using sandpaper 2000 or higher.

Warnings

  • In the initial phase, 1500 or more sandpaper should be preferred. The larger the number we are talking about, the thinner the sandpaper is. Using a thick sandpaper will make your headlight worn more while trying to smooth the headlight surfaces.
  • Apply a protective masking tape around the headlight to avoid scratching the paint on the hood and its surroundings during the sanding process.
  • If a polishing machine is to be used during these operations, polishing should be done at low speed. The use of a high-speed polisher can cause serious damage to the car's paint by causing loss of control. That's why you have to be careful.
