When and How Should Air Conditioning Be Cleaned?

General information about how to clean and maintain the air conditioner at home, which is among the household appliances that are widely used in summer.

When should the air conditioner be cleaned?

With the operation of the air conditioners in summer or winter, if the parts of the air conditioner are not regularly maintained, there will be something like mud with the accumulation of dust. With the accumulation of dirt and dust, there will be a serious increase in energy consumption. In this case, not only will bacteria multiply over time, but also fungi will develop. If people breathe such air, it will threaten health. Air conditioning cleaning should always be done as soon as possible if the following situations occur.

  • Fluid leakage;
  • Noisy operation;
  • Odor from the air conditioner.

Each of these three situations may occur at the same time or separately. If even one of them appears, immediate cleaning is required. If there is an increasing odor and an odor such as burnt tire smell, you should perform the cleaning without interruption. If the warranty period of the air conditioner has not yet expired, you should not clean the device.

If the warranty expires and you do not want to pay for the cleaning of it, you can clean it yourself in your home.

Cleaning the Filter

It is recommended to clean the air conditioner filter without accumulating too much dirt and dust. For this, it is always important to clean it once a month. First of all, you need to know what the air conditioner parts are. In addition, since a significant amount of dust will fall down during the cleaning of the air conditioners, you should lay a large cloth or newspaper on the lower part of the air conditioner to prevent this dust from spreading to the floor. Following the steps below will help you do the right cleaning:

  • You should prevent the air conditioner from coming off the wall and remove the first cover;
  • There is a protective grid in front of the filter, you should remove it;
  • In order to clean the filter, dust must first be extracted with the vacuum cleaner.

If the air conditioner is very dirty, only a vacuum cleaner will not be enough to clean it. For this reason, it should be washed with warm water. However, the temperature of the water should always be 45 degrees. In case of high temperature, it causes serious damage to the filter. In case the filter is washed, natural methods should always be applied to dry it. For this, heaters should not be used, but should be placed at room temperature and dried. Again, the filter must be installed correctly.

They have a lifetime during filter cleaning. An air conditioner filter can be washed 8 times on average. However, filters called pocket filters should not be washed and replaced with a new one.

Cleaning the Inner Module

It must be cleaned after the filter in the inner module. This section is the place where the heat exchanger is located, as well as the main parts of the device responsible for air heating and cooling. Main parts are cleaning, air conditioner evaporator, and special tubes. The air flow is cooled through the pipe. Power supply must be turned off while cleaning. Perform the cleaning process by following these steps:

  • The ventilation holes should be cleaned and the protective grille removed;
  • You should use a vacuum cleaner to clean the heat exchangers and pipes as well as dust inside the valve;
  • Use a soft brush with a pointed tip for hard-to-reach areas.

Cleaning the fan inside the indoor unit should be done very carefully. Due to the accumulation of dust and the fact that these dusts accumulate, soapy water should be made for the cleaning of the fan, since it will work noisy and will not cool enough. With the brush, first the dust on the fan should be removed, then the brush should be dipped in soapy water and cleaned easily.

Cleaning the Outdoor Unit

The outdoor unit should be cleaned after the filter and indoor unit parts are installed carefully. If the case becomes muddy from dust and dirt, it should be brushed with the brush and then a damp cloth should be taken for cleaning. It will be appropriate to wipe all parts to be cleaned. Using pressurized water for cleaning the outdoor unit will make cleaning easier. For this, a hose should be connected to the faucet and cleaned after brushing the dirt by applying pressure.

The pressurized water you used while cleaning the outdoor unit should never be used for indoor unit cleaning. Before wiping with a moistened cloth and washing with tap water, the end points must be cleaned with the brush together with the brush and then cleaned with a damp cloth or tap water.
