The dangers of sitting

Anyone who works by sitting for 8-10 hours a day is at risk from a vital point of view, even if he does regular exercise every day. There are many experts who say sitting is equivalent to smoking, or even worse in terms of health. Still life is a life whose duration is shortened. Sitting for a long time invites many physical and mental illnesses such as diabetes, obesity, heart attack, cancer, and anxiety.

Our body is not designed to stay in the same position all the time. Sitting all day is one of the most unhealthy and wrongdoings in the world, but unfortunately, the conditions of life force us to do so.

According to a study conducted at Columbia University among 8 thousand people aged 45 and over, it was concluded that people who work sitting are at approximately 2 times higher risk of death. People who work at least 13 hours a day and sit steadily for 60 to 90 minutes have been found to have twice the risk of sudden death compared to people with a mobile work environment. According to a 4-year study, which killed 340 people during this time, people who do not stay still for more than 30 minutes have a 55% greater chance of survival.

Is Sitting or Working Better Healthier or Standing?
There is no clear answer to this question. Experts recommend working both sitting and standing during the day. The key word here is the correct posture. Whether you are sitting or standing, it is important to stand correctly. In both positions, your back should stand at your sides with your back straight and your elbows bent at a 90-degree angle. It is not recommended to stay in the same position for a long time. Sitting or standing for a long time is equally inconvenient. For this reason, you should work sitting at certain times of the day, and you should prefer to work standing up at certain times. Working standing all day does not provide you extra benefit, it even causes fatigue and pain.

For those who say, "standing desk" is designed. These tables, which are no different from a normal table, have only longer legs and allow you to use your computer and mouse without any difficulty when you stand.
Working while standing reduces your back pain, prevents blood clotting in your leg veins, and increases your energy level. Even if you don't have a standing desk, you can get a similar effect by getting up every 30 minutes.

Suggestions for Seated Employees
If you work sitting, you must have an ergonomic chair. You should stand up every 30 minutes, take walks to the kitchen and out of the office on the pretext of buying tea and coffee, and spend your breaks standing while talking with your friends. If you are working at a desk and it is not possible for you to get up because of your workload, you can do small neck, arm and leg exercises that you can do while sitting. By accelerating your blood flow and stretching, you can end the time you spend sitting with the least damage.

While sitting, your feet and knees should be in line and your feet should be flat on the floor. If you are using a computer, your monitor should be at eye level; If it stands lower, it causes you to stoop, and if it stands higher, it causes your neck to ache. The mouse you use should not be too far from you either. You should use an ergonomic mouse and a wrist-supported keyboard in order to avoid wrist pain that often occurs in people who use a mouse and keyboard for a long time, called carpal tunnel syndrome.

An active lifestyle doesn't mean exercising every day. By not staying in the same position for more than 30 minutes, you can actively increase your quality of life by moving continuously throughout the day and prevent diseases such as obesity, cancer, heart attack.
