Knowing from the very beginning how to properly wash everyday items will allow you to enjoy them much longer. Sometimes the best option is to wash in the machine. However, there are still many precautions we need to take and using the right materials can provide a more enjoyable washing experience.
There is also the cleaning and maintenance of our items that we use regularly every day. When it comes to cleaning, the first thing that comes to mind is the washing machine, but in some cases, it is necessary to wash by hand in order to prevent the items from being damaged and their colors from fading too quickly. In our news we found out which methods to choose in each situation and what steps you should take to wash your items and then dry them with the best results.
1. Towels
Wash your towels separately using the hottest water setting possible in your washing machine. Add a glass of vinegar and do not use any detergent or fabric softener for now. After everything is well mixed, stop the machine and soak the towels for about an hour. Then turn the machine back on and let the wash cycle complete.
Meanwhile, add another glass of vinegar and your usual fabric softener. Another option is to replace the vinegar with some lemon juice, which can give you very soft, clean towels. Restart the machine. And immediately put the towels in the dryer after it's all done.
2. Jeans
First of all, it should be noted that you do not need to wash your jeans very often. In fact, doing so can cause them to fade pretty quickly. So, every 4 to 6 weeks is ok as long as they don't have really bad spots on them.
Turn the jeans inside out before washing so they can retain their color more. Use a color-protecting detergent or vinegar and use the lowest possible spin speed and temperature. If your machine has a gentle wash or hand wash option, feel free to use them.
3. Reusable shopping bags
Check the label first, as shopping bags are made from different materials. The good news is that most cotton and canvas shopping bags are machine washable. Use the hottest water possible and normal detergent .
Hand wash plastic bags in warm water. Turn the bag upside down, add 2 tablespoons of dish soap and let it sit for 15 minutes. Dry completely before storing. If you're not near the sink, try using disinfecting wipes and let your bag dry.
4. Shoes
Of course, at first, remove dirt and surface debris with a damp cloth and clean the soles with a toothbrush before washing them in warm, soapy water. Remove the insoles and laces and put everything in the washing machine separately.
Put the shoes in a mesh bag and seal for protection. Set on gentle cycle with fairly cold or lukewarm water. Hot water causes adhesive bonds to weaken, crack or melt. Do not use fabric softener either, as it may leave a residue that will only attract more dirt later.
At the end of the wash cycle, take the shoes outside and let them dry for at least 24 hours before wearing them. Do not use a dryer, it will only damage your shoes.
