Here the answer to the question is hidden in these 2 reasons
Baking powder, which we often come across recently and which we usually use in our pastries in our kitchen, is actually not limited to food in the kitchen. After this news, you will take your baking powder out of your closet and put it next to your washing machine...
The baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) we use to rise our cakes and other pastries is also an inexpensive way to deodorize clothes, improve detergent and bleach performance, soften clothes, clean irons, and control detergent suds. Safe to use in both standard and high-efficiency washers, baking soda is one of the two best products (along with distilled white vinegar) for making your laundry greener by reducing your reliance on harsh chemicals.
Here are two reasons why you should have baking soda in your laundry room.
REDUCE AND REMOVE LAUNDRY ODOR
Body odors on our clothes and sheets are caused by bacteria. When the detergent molecules break down the bacterial cells in the fabrics to be washed, the bacteria are removed. However, cheaper detergents that don't contain enzymes that work hard to get rid of bacteria need a boost to work more effectively.
Baking soda helps regulate the pH level by preventing the washing machine water from becoming too acidic or alkaline. By adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to each load of laundry, detergents can work more effectively and reduce bacteria.
For heavy odor issues like underarm sweat or environmental odors like cigarette smoke, use baking soda and water as a pre-soak. Dissolve 1 or 2 cups of baking soda in some warm water. Fill the washer tub or large sink with cold water and add the dissolved baking soda. Add your stinky clothes and let them soak overnight and then wash as usual.
If you have clothes that need to be replaced and cannot be washed , put them in a sealed container, such as a storage container with an open box of baking soda. Let sit for at least 24 hours to help remove odors.
INCREASE BLEACH AND DETERGENT PERFORMANCE
Chlorine bleach is often used to help remove odors and general dirt from our laundry. In water that is very acidic or alkaline, the bleach needs a boost to work more effectively. By increasing its cleaning properties, you can use less bleach to achieve the same results, save money and reduce the environmental impact of bleach.
Adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to every 1/2 cup of bleach (make sure you add the bleach at the right time) helps regulate the pH level in the water so the bleach works more effectively at reducing bacteria and loosening the soil.
If you don't use chlorine bleach, 1/2 cup of baking soda will improve the performance of your detergent. This is especially important if you have hard water or use a valuable detergent. Dry baking soda should be added to the empty wash tub before adding the dirty laundry. Do not put baking soda in the automatic dispensers of the washing machine.
